MetaCyc EC 4.1.1.87 -- malonyl-[malonate decarboxylase] decarboxylase

Parent Class: EC-Numbers4 -- Lyases4.1 -- Carbon-carbon lyases4.1.1 -- Carboxy-lyases

Synonyms: malonyl-S-acyl-carrier protein decarboxylase, MdcD/MdcE, MdcD,E, malonyl-S-ACP decarboxylase

Systematic Name: malonyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] carboxy-lyase

Unification Links: BRENDA:4.1.1.87, ENZYME:4.1.1.87, IUBMB-ExplorEnz:4.1.1.87

Reaction:
malonyl-[holo malonate decarboxylase acyl-carrier protein] + H+ → acetyl-[holo malonate decarboxylase acyl-carrier protein] + CO2

Enzymes and Genes:
malonate decarboxylase: mdcE, mdcD ( Klebsiella pneumoniae )

Summary:
This enzyme comprises the β and γ subunits of EC 4.1.1.88, biotin-independent malonate decarboxylase, but is not present in EC 7.2.4.4, biotin-dependent malonate decarboxylase. It follows on from EC 2.3.1.187, acetyl-S-ACP:malonate ACP transferase, and results in the regeneration of the acetylated form of the acyl-carrier-protein subunit of malonate decarboxylase [Dimroth97]. The carboxy group is lost with retention of configuration [Handa99].
