MetaCyc EC 2.8.3.18 -- succinyl-CoA:acetate CoA-transferase

Parent Class: EC-Numbers2 -- Transferases2.8 -- Transferring sulfur-containing groups2.8.3 -- CoA-transferases

Synonyms: aarC (gene name), SCACT

Systematic Name: succinyl-CoA:acetate CoA-transferase

Unification Links: BRENDA:2.8.3.18, ENZYME:2.8.3.18, IUBMB-ExplorEnz:2.8.3.18

Reaction:
succinyl-CoA + acetate ↔ succinate + acetyl-CoA

Enzymes and Genes:
succinyl-CoA:acetate CoA-transferase: ASCT ( Fasciola hepatica )
succinyl-CoA:acetate CoA-transferase: aarC ( Acetobacter aceti )
succinyl-CoA:CoA transferase: cat1 ( Clostridium kluyveri )
acetyl:succinate CoA-transferase ( Tritrichomonas suis )
acetyl:succinate CoA-transferase: ASCT ( Trypanosoma brucei )
succinyl-CoA:acetate CoA-transferase: aarC ( Cutibacterium granulosum )

Summary:
In some bacteria the enzyme catalyses the conversion of acetate to acetyl-CoA as part of a modified tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle [Mullins08, Mullins12, Kwong17]. In other organisms it converts acetyl-CoA to acetate during fermentation [Steinbuchel86, Sohling96, vanGrinsven09, Zhang21]. In some organisms the enzyme also catalyses the activity of EC 2.8.3.27, propanoyl-CoA:succinate CoA transferase.
