Supersedes EC number: 2.3.1.154

Reaction:
choloyl-CoA + propanoyl-CoA ← coenzyme A + 3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-24-oxo-5-β-cholestanoyl CoA

Unofficial Reactions:
chenodeoxycholoyl-CoA + propanoyl-CoA ← 3α,7α-dihydroxy-24-oxo-5β-cholestanoyl CoA + coenzyme A,
3-oxochol-4-en-24-oyl-CoA + propanoyl-CoA ← 3,24-dioxocholest-4-en-26-oyl-CoA + coenzyme A,
4,8,12-trimethyltridecanoyl-CoA + propanoyl-CoA ← coenzyme A + 3-oxopristanoyl-CoA

Enzymes and Genes:
sterol carrier protein 2: Scp2 ( Rattus norvegicus )

Summary:
Also acts on dihydroxy-5-beta-cholestanoyl-CoA and other branched chain acyl-CoA derivatives. Catalyzes the penultimate step in the formation of bile acids. The bile acid moiety is transferred from the acyl-CoA thioester (RCO SCoA) to either glycine or taurine (NH(2)R') by EC 2.3.1.65, bile acid-CoA:amino acid N-acyltransferase [Falany94].
